An Escape into a Land of Clay and Craft
Journey out of Chefchaouen for a half-day to discover the magnificent countryside of Oued Laou, a region where the red mountains are rich with natural clay. This is an escape into a world of authentic craftsmanship, far from the city bustle. You will be welcomed into a traditional cooperative to discover ancestral manual techniques that give the local pottery its unique strength and character.
A Hands-On Connection with the Earth
This immersive experience is a true return to the source. You will observe the impressive giant earth kiln and the different stages of the pottery-making process, from preparing the clay to the final firing.
Then, under the shade of the domain’s olive trees, it will be your turn to practice. Feel the cool, raw clay in your hands as you learn the basics of modeling. It’s a simple, authentic, and grounding moment at the heart of the Rif’s rural life. You will leave with a small piece of pottery from the cooperative as a souvenir of your authentic immersion.
