Now retired after a long and distinguished career, including receiving accolades from King Mohamed VI and winning international competitions, he generously shares his passion and expertise in his free time, much like he once mentored apprentices.

This isn’t just a workshop; it’s an intimate apprenticeship with a master, a chance to create a personal treasure imbued with history and soul.

Your Unfiltered Silversmithing Journey: The “Deg Souiri” Legacy

Mâalem Hussein will welcome you for an immersive session of around 3 hours, though the exact duration (between 2 to 4 hours) will depend on your pace and the complexity of the piece you choose to create. You can select from a range of classic designs: a distinctive ring, an elegant bracelet, unique earrings, or a captivating necklace.

Under Hussein’s patient guidance, you’ll first be assisted in shaping the silver base of your chosen piece. Then, you will be initiated into the secrets of “Deg Souiri” – Essaouira’s exceptionally delicate and detailed filigree technique. This art form is a testament to the rich cultural fusion of the city, a heritage passed down through generations. An Exceptional Setting for Larger Groups (3+ people):

For groups of three or more, or for those seeking an even more exclusive ambiance, the workshop can be hosted at Mâalem Hussein’s stunning private villa in Ida Ougourd. This beautiful home, with its inspiring garden, is nestled near a historic site – the ruins of an ancient Saadian sugar refinery. This serene location, about a 20-minute drive from Essaouira’s center, provides an unforgettable backdrop for your creative journey.

• Transport to Ida Ougourd Villa: If your workshop takes place at the villa, you will need to arrange your own transportation. Alternatively, please contact us, and we can organize private transport for your group (approximately €55 for up to 6 people, round trip).

• Optional Lunch at the Villa: For groups enjoying the workshop at the Ida Ougourd villa, you can enhance your experience with a delicious, homemade Moroccan lunch prepared on-site. This is available for an additional €20 per person.
