Welcome to Mohamed's contemporary art gallery in Tangier
When we met him, Mohamed warmly welcomed us in his studio with a smile.
After the time it took to heat up the coffee, we were comfortably installed to talk about his paintings and the studio he had arranged himself.
Mohamed is an artist at heart. First oriented towards music, which he had studied and practiced for several years, he then turned to painting as a means of expression.
His early works, inspired by Jackson Pollock, caught the attention of a Tangier-based painter who recognized his talent and encouraged him to persevere on this path.
He studied drawing and academic techniques at the Cultural Delegation of Tangier, but quickly realized that abstraction was what truly animated his art.
Indeed, a look at his canvases makes it clear that Mohamed's brushstrokes are spontaneous and raw. The canvases are scratched, clawed, damaged, and tortured, with the colors mixed with letters, words, numbers or other unidentified symbols.
Yet, amidst this mixture, the soul of Tangier's walls - their worn colors, and the writings that the locals have left there - still stand out.

Tangier is known to be a hub for the international art scene, which it has greatly influenced.
As a native and resident of the city, Mohamed knows it intimately, so it is not surprising that his art is so infused with it.
During some of his workshops, he takes participants on tours of the city to let them discover its artistic vibrations, allowing their paintings to be inspired by the atmosphere of \"The Pearl of the Strait\".
The workshops take place within his own studio and gallery, in the heart of the old medina - a space that Mohamed has opened up to any other artists, weither passing through or based in Tangier, to work on projects either temporarily or as artists-in-residence. In this way, he showcases the work of many national and international artists, working to promote art in his city.
